A symposium and bus tour will examine the life and work of John
Joseph Earley (1881-1945) who developed a "polychrome" process of concrete slab
construction and ornamentation that was admired nationwide.

University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.
Gerd Kittel's "Diners: People and Places" shows the range of
diner architecture. The book has 68 color photos by Kittel. He knows
how to arrange the scene so you linger over the image: sun lighting
up interior or exterior metal and glass, neon glowing in twilight,
a brightly lit diner looming out of a foggy night.

The 1928 Ambassador Super Cinema in Salford, England
was threatened with demolition. The developer has withdrawn its
application to demolish the theater.
