What I Watched

Rewatched these gems to get ready for...

this:

Exceeded my expectations. Loved it, and it was flawless and oh yeah...in case you didnt know
it set opening box office records as well as other records as you can see here. See it if you haven't already, I have seen it twice (altho both times in standard form, no need for 3D imo) and definitely wouldn't ruleourt seeing it for a third time before it rolls out of theaters. Fantastic job, well done Joss Whedon, well done.

Jason Mraz's album Love is a Four Letter Word came out a few weeks ago, but it took me a few weeks to get around to listening to it. I liked it a lot. This album, as well as new albums that came out from B.o.B. and Carrie Underwood, reminded me the enjoyment that you can find listening to a complete album as it was intended - from beginning to end. It's easy to forget these days in our iTunes generation how sometimes it takes awhile to get into an album and how by listening to it in the order it was placed in - and not just one or two tracks here or there - you can appreciate an album or artists work more fully. Anyway, I highly reccommend Love is a Four Letter Word, as well as Carrie Underwood's Blown Away and B.o.B.'s Strange Clouds albums altho I cannot speak for the bonus tracks off of B.o.B.'s album yet as I haven't heard them yet. Also, Calvin Harris continues to amaze me and I love his song "Feel so Close" and definitely like it a lot more than his new single that came out with Ne-Yo, "Let's Go".

What I Watched

I was gearing up for this week...I'll say more on the subject laterz, but I did see The Avengers this week, but did watch a few movies to refresh on the whole gang before than.

and...

I went into this movie expecting another sappy, corny cheeseball romantic comedy just for the heck of it. Holy crud, was I in for a surprise for what I got...I can truthfully say that Jason Segel (Marshall on How I Met Your Mother) has truthfully become one of my favorite comedic actors. He has grown as someone that can do more than comedy as a lot of his movies and acting can be included with flairs of drama included in it as well. With his recent push and screenwriting credits for the successful The Muppets revival and now his screenwriting credit on this gem, I am impressed with where his career is going. He is essientially the new Zach Braff without the pretensiousness (no shade tho, love Zach Braff and Garden State and The Last Kiss) but right now I'm more interested in Jason's career and where it may go. It wsa real and it wasn't hokey and sappy...it dealt with real life and the way things do and don't go as you think they may go. It explored the ups and downs of a relationship as well as seeing your friends and peers surpassing you in their attempts in creating a stable relationship and building a family [even the ones that you'd never imagine would get there before you]. Everything doesn't happen cleanly..it was messy, depressing at points, and just very true to life. It might because where I am in my life but it talked to me, and touched me. And Jason Segel and Emily Blunt were charming and on point with their comedic timing. The only thing I didn't like was the decaptations (two) but they were really small and not a big thing, it just struck me as unneccessary and unfunny. But definitely see this movie, it was amazing and beautiful and amazing. Check it out. If you do, let me know if you liked it. My fave scene was the two sisters talking in Sesame Street voices about life near the end.

Still obsessed with Redemption City and have that on lock along with Britney and Nicki burning up plays on my iPod. As much as I hate how sexualized and cheesy 'The Whistle Song' is after the impeccable 'Wild One' collaboration with Sia, it still has become a guilty pleasure and has added to a good share of my Flo Rida tracks the past week...def a guilty pleasure.

What I Watched

I am kind of hesistant to admit that I like this show because it hasn't been doing blockbusters in its timeslot since it premiered earlier this month so there's no guarentee that it will stand a chance of being renewed for a second season but IDGAF. If you're in the USA, please check out this show if you haven't yet. It focuses on Olivia Pope (played by the underrated Kerry Washington) who runs a crisis manangement firm that focuses on scandals for the rich and famous. And it is amazing and so refreshing to see a successful and HBIC POC on a network show...it fascinates me on so many levels and the stories are really well written and it has been developed well by Shonda Rhimes who created Grey's Anatomy [Keep in mind that when it began, Grey's was critically acclaimed and really well run, before it went off the tracks, so here's hoping Shonda can maintain it and keep it up]. It runs Thursday nights through May at 10PM on ABC and really worth your time. Please check it out if you can.

-----

And I went and saw 'The Raven' which starred John Cusak trying to imitate Nicholas Cage's acting skills of...overacting and it was entertaining but definitely nothing to write home about. Not even worth my time to post the movie poster tbh. Wait til it comes out on network tv. Cheesy, hokey and disappointing, I figured out who it was by about the halfway point and yeah...not worth the time or the money to see it in theaters.

So I finally listened to the double-disc free album by Joseph Arthur "Redemption City" and fell in love with it...he has always been a favorite but this is the first album of his I have listened from beginning to end without getting bored (maybe I'm growing up; or just in the mood for it now? IDK). It's really gorgeous and beautiful even though I am not the biggest fan of the spoken word-songs if I'm completely honest with this post. Still...if you have some time to listen to thise double album from start to finish, do so - it is amahzing. Also Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded continues to be my fave album so far this year as far as pop goes and Nelly Furtado has released her lead single off her upcoming album "Big Hoops (The Bigger the Better)" which is funky as hell but I dig it...it hasn't even charted in the top 200 in the US iTunes charts tho so that sucks but hopefully it will catch on a bit with some promotion. Ohhh, and decided to add a new bit to this weekly post...

What I Watched

I bought the fourth Mission Impossible that just came out but decided to go ahead and rewatch the three prior in the series before watching the latest again. All three were really well done, although to be honest my fave is still the original. :-p

and

I originally tried watching 'The Killing' when it premiered last year but ultimately gave up on it after the third or fourth episode in. However after learning that it had been renewed (I loathe getting into a drama series only to learn that it's been canceled after I've really gotten into the storytelling) I decided to give it another go, based on the general good word of mouth I had heard. I decided to ignore the uproar it caused in the television universe last summer by the last minute twist at the end of the season finale when we find out the case hasn't been closed, and focused on the show as a whole. I found it really addicting and really well acted and I know it's not a popular opinion but I liked the pacing of it as well. I've also caught up with 'Once Upon a Time' after allowing me to acrue a good load of episodes that were left unwatched until it returns back from hiatus this upcoming Sunday. I hate all the hiatuses shows go on and would rather ignore a series for a bit and than marathon catch up rather than watch them at their original airdates and have weeks on end without new episodes. I know, I'm a weirdo. :-p

I'm bulletproof, Nothing to Lose...
Happy Easter everyone! I know I'm posting this as the day as drawing to a close here on the east coast but I'm trusting that you all had an enjoyable time with your friends and family today. This week was pretty eventful to be honest, as I turned 28 this past Tuesday which means I'm closer to entering my thirties which is kind of scary. It's crazy how close I am to being 30 years old and how much (and how little) has happened in these 28 some-odd years here on Earth. Here's hoping I continue growing and improving as a human being as this year goes on by, that's the only thing that you can hope for.

I had some other things to share but have since changed my mind on posting them on an open forum like this since I started writing this entry a few minutes ago. Anyway, hope you guys are well, and have enjoyed the holiday today. I'm so flippin happy that the weather is starting to get nicer out and can't believe it's already Spring again...I went down to DC for the day for my birthday and I hope to be able to go down there again a few more times on my days off before it gets too insufferably hot. I really like DC and there's a lot to see and do down there.

Nicki Minaj released her second full-length album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, this past week and I remained earnest and avoided all the leaked copies until I was able to attain my physical copy of the disc on Tuesday evening. It exceeded my expectations and I love it all - the rap and hip hop first part and the more pop-dance track tracks on the latter half. Between the Madonna album, Nicki's and the new album I've been checking out lately that Joseph Arthur released as a freebie on his website (Redemption City) I am in music heaven. I think I'm over Lana Del Rey too, she was good but maybe I've overplayed her too soon? I think I'm over her IDK.

Madonna and The All American Rejects were the big releases however my faves were the Best of Bootie 2011 and Joseph Arthur's free double album 'Redemption City'. The latter of the two wis fricking gorgeous so far, althuogh I'm only 8 tracks into it.

Hate on me, but I kinda dig Karmin (or at least their two music video singles 'Crash your Party' and 'Brokenhearted'). But her bang thing...I don't know who told her that was flattering or why she insists on doing it (unless it's to distinct her from the other pop stars) but she looks a lot better with her hair down and she kinda reminds me of one of my coworkers. Uhm, otherwise it's all Lana Del Rey and Fun. and the always perfect Ms. Britney Spears ♥. Big music releases in the next two weeks. :-) :-) :-)

I really, really have enjoyed the band fun.'s new album Some Nights although having wiki'd some of their older tracks and more successful singles from back in the day, it seems like I wouldn't like their old material. Also, finally, after like a year plus of delays the Ting Tings have released their sophomore album Songs from Nowheresville. I really, really like it and will be reviewing it here on this little LJ once the novelty has worn off of it and I can judge it fairly and in an unbiased fashion.
