Even though, I'm still a Tech Ronin and writing about it, I've migrated over to a new domain: janet.tokerud.com. The blog name is now Independent Knowledge Professional. That sounds a little more formal and maybe it is. But, it's still about the fact that a great many of us are knowledge professionals and it may behoove us all to think of ourselves as independent. I just ordered the 32gb + 3G. I wanted to get wi-fi only and save $129 but remembered all the times I've been frustrated being stuck without an internet connection on my laptop or iPod touch. I do have an iPhone 3GS and plan on keeping it but I figured it will likely be a certain amount of hassle to substitute iPhone 3G access for access on the iPad when that's what I want to use. Was on the fence due to the expense but finally went for it since none of us really know what kinds of use cases...
I now have 2 WordPress.org blogs and 4 TypePad blogs plus, of course, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter accounts. Here's the scoop. If you are a professional, consultant or independent contractor, you desperately need a web presence. If you love technology and can write your way out of a paper bag, you should almost certainly have a blog-based website as your main web presence - your home base. Guess who transferred her tokerud.com domain from Forest.net to Dreamhost? Guess who is now rocking the Thesis WordPress theme and that theme is running my tokerud.com site as a WordPress blog? Yeah. That would be me. My tokerud.com site has about 6 *static* web pages so it was not a huge challenge to migrate those pages. But then I was going from a static homegrown website to WordPress blog. Deciding to Buy the Kindle 2. After much hemming and hawing about buying a Kindle (see below), I took the plunge Saturday Feb 28 and received my Kindle the following Monday afternoon. I'm sitting on my couch surfing the web with my MacBook Air. I've been thoroughly delighted with this machine since day 1. It is so light and comfy and, yes, it is a gorgeous piece of tech. Just a reminder, I do have an iMac 24 sitting in my home office. And, I use it now and then. But when I do, I find being chained to a desk, constraining and uncomfortable after a while. I got my first WordPress blog installed last night. That means I have a site up and running - nothing more. I don't want to start a brand new blog. I want to replace my static tokerud.com website with a WordPress blog. In order to find out about WordPress and it's strengths and weaknesses, I needed to try something.
