With the exception of snow flurries yesterday February 8, Botetourt County has been practically snow free.

Mountain Castles Soil and Water Conservation District held their annual awards presentation banquet on December 8th 2011 at the Fincastle Firehouse.

Fincastle, VA- In late January 2011, Botetourt County was awarded a FEMA grant of $946,578 over two years to cover the salary and benefits of 7 new emergency responders and one countywide training officer.

The National Park Service will be coming to the area for the first few days of March to explore theA possibility of adding Botetourt, Rockbridge and Augusta Counties to the proposed Lewis and Clark Legacy Trail.

But thanks in part to a FEMA grant known as Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response or S.A.F.E.R.; the county added eight full time firefighters and EMS responders to its volunteer force last May.
