Calaveras County Supervisor Tom Tryon announced Tuesday he will seek an eighth term, setting the stage for a campaign in which he'll be challenged by his former board colleague, Russ Thomas of Copperopolis.

Former Calaveras County District 5 Supervisor Russ Thomas, of Copperopolis, is seeking re-election to the board from the newly redrawn District 4. Thomas, 67, served one term representing a district that consisted of Copperopolis and Rancho Calaveras.
